Electrical Appliance Installation, Wiring Peterborough ON

Picture
Modern day appliances - they certainly don’t make them the way they used to.  It’s no secret appliances today don’t have the longevity compared to those of yesteryear, even the high end ones.  There’s really no way around that, but a consumer and homeowner can take some simple steps to ensure its lifespan is prolonged as much as possible.  The main takeaway is to follow the care and maintenance instructions provided in the manual. Beyond that, we might have to leave it to the appliance gods to decide its fate.

So who should you call to provide electrical appliance wiring?  A quality licensed electrician, that’s who.  There are certain appliances that require much more than just plugging it in and immediately being able to use it.  Let’s explore a few appliance wiring scenarios that are a bit more involved.

Dishwasher Installation

This is definitely not a plug and play situation.  Installing the water and drain lines is relatively simple as they are in close proximity to the kitchen sink.  The challenging part is routing a dedicated 20 amp circuit from the dishwasher to the electrical service panel.  Why is this the challenging part? Well, try to envision where your service panel is located. It’s likely nowhere near your kitchen.  It’s likely in the basement, in which case a hole would have to be drilled from the kitchen floor to the basement. If the service panel is not in the basement, a longer connection still needs to be made from the dishwasher to the remote electrical service panel.  This is a job that should be left for your local Peterborough electrician.

Electric Range Installation

This is not the most complicated project for an electrical contractor, but if you’re upgrading from a gas stove to an electric stove, your electrical contractor will need to install a new 240 volt circuit breaker.  Gas stoves usually only have a 120 volt circuit to power the vent and timer. The electric range, however, will need a special 120/240 volt circuit and receptacle as the 240 volt component would be used to power the stove top’s heating coils.

Electric Clothes Dryer Installation

Washing machines are relatively easy to set up especially if replacing an old machine with a new one.  If it’s in a new location, plumbing lines and a new electrical outlet need to be installed. In terms of the electric clothes dryer, it is comparable to the electric range requirements in that in addition to the 120 volt circuit that powers the timer and tumbler, a 240 volt circuit is needed to power the heating element.  In laundry centres, because it is an area of potential high moisture, you may need to have a GFCI outlet installed. Ask our Peterborough electricians to complete the installations for you for peace of mind.

Hot Tub Installation

Installing a hot tub in your home, whether indoors or outdoors, requires special electrical wiring that only a professional licensed electrician should do.  There are many things to consider before deciding on a hot tub electrical wiring such as proximity to the house if installed outdoors, whether to install a privacy fence, or whether you prefer inground hot tubs or above ground hot tubs, to name a few.  Contact us to discuss your particular needs and we will advise you based on your house’s layout and situation.
