New construction electrician Peterborough ON

Picture
At Electricians Peterborough, we’ve worked with many homeowners, business owners and developers in their new construction project, providing expert new build electrical services.  This is an undertaking that should be handled by a seasoned and licensed electrical contracting company that employs ECRA/ESA licensed electricians that have done this type of work in the past.

There are quite a few steps involved when dealing with a new build or new addition electrical installation in a dwelling or building.  Some of these include, but are not limited to (and often working in conjunction with other contractors):

  • Getting permit before commencing the job - consult with City of Peterborough’s local building department for details

  • Mounting of electrical boxes at appropriate heights

  • Ensuring the breaker panel has sufficient amperage to power the home or building (i.e. 200 amps electrical panel installation is typical for a moderate sized modern home)

  • Drilling holes at every stud point for running cables and wires

  • Ensuring there is enough room to run wires to each electrical box

  • Splicing bare ground wires when dealing with multiple conductors

  • Running wires between the switch box, outlets and light fixtures such as chandeliers, pot lights and other indoor lighting

  • Arranging an inspection from the local department to ensure all electrical systems are to code, after which the walls and ceilings can be drywalled

Although this seems to be a straightforward process, it is best to hire a licensed local electrician who has done this type of new build electrical project before, hopefully having done more than a handful under their belt.  In Ontario, it’s imperative that the electrical contractor is ECRA/ESA certified and working under a registered electrical contracting company such as Electricians Peterborough.

An experienced electrician will know the process of building and installing the electrical system, the order in which to perform certain operations, and will have a deep understanding of the Bylaws and electrical code to be followed.  They will know how and when to obtain permits, to contact the local inspector for an electrical inspection and to ensure a safe and secure environment that follows the updated code.

So if you’re looking into a new construction or a new build to an existing dwelling, you’ll need to have your electrical wiring installed and/or updated by a reliable electrical contractor.  If you’re adding to an existing building that is many decades old, you may be dealing with knob and tube wiring or aluminum wiring that may need to be replaced with the modern, safe and stable copper wiring.  Operating with knob and tube can increase the risk of electrical shocks since it doesn’t require ground wiring, and at the very least, may damage your delicate three-prong electronics.  Feel free to contact us at Electricians Peterborough to discuss your electrical wiring needs.  We handle all types of services, from simple repairs to a whole home electrical installation, so you won’t have to worry about the little steps that we will take care of from start to finish.
