Electrical Vehicle Charging Station Installation Peterborough ON

Picture
If you’re a resident or business owner in Peterborough or the surrounding area, and are looking into or have already purchased an electric vehicle, congratulations, you are part of a growing number of drivers who have opted for a future-focused, environmentally-sound mode of transportation.

Many people don’t automatically opt for an electric car due to the initial sticker price.  Most models made by Chevrolet, Kia, Ford and the like cost somewhere between $30,000 and $40,000 with some of the higher-priced models like Tesla can cost upwards of $70,000 and into the six figure range.  So this is one of the reasons some consumers convince themselves an EV is not within their price range.  They might also be wary of the charging requirements and fewer number of public charging stations, which may lead to “range anxiety”, which believe it or not is a thing and initially does have some validity.  Range anxiety describes the fear that the car will run out of power during a trip and you’ll be stranded in the middle of nowhere with no means of recharging your vehicle.  While this may have been the case a decade or so ago, it is becoming decreasingly an issue as more charging stations pop up at workplaces and public locations.

Beyond the initial sticker price and range anxiety, however, are advantages the EV driver can enjoy down the road, so to speak.  There’s the obvious environmentally-friendly advantage that your car isn’t emitting any noxious fumes.  This can be a big way to reduce your environmental carbon footprint.  Then there’s the vastly improved maintenance schedule.  With no need to fill up on gas, no need to top up fluids or schedule an oil change, with fewer parts in your car to maintain and potentially break down, you’ll be making much fewer visits to your auto mechanic.  This will not only save you time, but money in maintenance costs.  Then there’s the difference in the ride and sound.  Electric vehicles are much quieter and smoother than fuel-based vehicles.

Now, going back to powering your EV, what modifications need to be made in your wall socket?  This isn’t mandatory, but highly advised if you don’t want to spend days charging your car at home vs. a fully charged car overnight.  If you have an existing wall outlet in your garage, it’s likely the standard 120V one (we call this Level 1 charging).  This type would be fine for a hybrid car which can be fully charged on a 120V charger.  If you own or are about to own a fully EV, you’ll want to upgrade the garage or carport’s charger to 240V (we call this Level 2 charging) if you want to maximize the charging efficiency.

So who do you call to upgrade the EV charging station?  The electric vehicle starting station installation would be performed by your local licensed electrical contractor like Electricians Peterborough.  We’ve installed hundreds of EV charge stations with expertise, and are confident you’ll be happy with the results.  Give Electricians Peterborough a call today to schedule an appointment and discuss your EV charge station installation needs.
